I first heard these guys playing in the street – with amps and drums and all – back around 1980. Long-haired desperados playing a sort of one-chord dirge with screaming vocals and atonal lead guitar – the “tune” went on for 20 minutes or so. “OK”, I thought immediately, “this is the band I want to play in.” And so it turned out to be. Thirty-some years later, with some member changes, we’re still playing and though I like to think we’ve made some musical advances (most songs now have 3 or 4 chords) it’s still the same band basically.
I like to refer to our music as afro-latin-jazz-rock-reggae-psychedelic-enka-punk but I’m not sure how much the other members go along with that. Anyway we steal all kinds of influences from all over the place and make it into our own ghastly mess. It’s lots of fun to play, and maybe some of the audience enjoy it some of the time too…
